My understanding is to mount the front and rear windshield trim clips either flush or just lower than flush for the clips. Is that true for vinyl tops as well? Does anyone have any pictures or measurements for the clips with a vinyl top? Should I wait to install the vinyl top before I drill holes for the clips? Obviously the top offers a different thickness than bare or painted steel.

drill the holes, first. this allows you to paint/prime them to combat the rust that befalls poor vinyl top installations. You can feel their placement after the top is installed. If you make a drilling template, you can use it after the top is installed to better find the holes.
