I'm in the middle of changing the pump on a '70 383 which has a Saginaw pump. In doing some internet research I keep seeing references to a pressure reducing valve which would be installed where the pressure line attaches to the pump. The old pump did not have a valve. The pump is the one with an oval filler neck. Can anybody help me out on this.

I got a reply from CVF the manufacturers of the Saginaw pumps . The PRV is only used on Mustang 2 rack. I guess the Dodge steering box can handle the higher pressure.
So , the pressure line is a direct bolt in to the pump.

My ‘70 Challenger RT has a .94 Saginaw power steering pump (oval neck) with a flow control valve. Found on page 19-27 of the FSM. Relief pressure can be altered by changing the shim thickness.
