Removing and getting out the oil filter? What am I missing?

Stock exhaust set up on my 71 Challenger 340. I've always brought it out through the top after setting it on torsion bar. I install the new one from the top. Fun if you prefill the filter with oil.

I hear ya. I do a slight fill, just enough to get it wet inside, but not enough to pour out when turned sideways.
