Looking for some opinions. I have a 73 challenger that I recently finished up most of the body work. Going with a yellow a bit brighter and more modern than the banana yellow. When I bought the car, it had a RT hood, 75-78 440, and Go wing and vinyl top.

This car is no survivor car. It has hardly any original parts and my main goal is to make it a great looking daily. With that in mind, I'm considering what to do with the decals.

Previously I had some RT style decals without the RT writing on the sides and hood. I think it might look a little naked if I dont go with anything this time but im considering going with the TA rear spoiler and side decals but leaving the hood the RT hood but just body color and no decal..

I cant decide if it would just look confused though. If I did, should I commit to the "tribute" look and go full factory style decals with the 440 writing, etc or do a T/A or R/T style stripe setup without the writing?

I have kinda always been of the opinion that "tribute" cars were a bit lame but I think the challenger just looks great with the side stripes, and in yellow especially it looks great with the TA stripe.

Attached are 2 pics of its current state and last is how it looked previously with the R/T style stripe
Any and all opinions are appreciated.

The car looks great! 👍

I never liked the go wing, even when these cars were new. To me it looks like someone stuck an aftermarket piece on it. But I always loved the T/A and AAR spoilers and why I put one on my ‘Cuda even though it doesn’t belong there. That being said, notice what they put on the new generation of Challengers. It ain’t the go wing.

I do like the stripe.

But, what do you care what we think? It’s your car. Someone said he didn’t like 60 series tires and wanted 50s. Good for him. I want 60s. Make it how you want.

I think it’s great that it’s not a survivor. You can make it the way you want. If it was a numbers matching Hemi with an ugly paint color, you wouldn’t dare change anything. That’s why I won’t buy one of those. But you can do what you want.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the go wing either. Thats why I took it off for now for paint and want to decide what direction to go with it.

You're right that I should go with what I think looks good, but I always feel like there's a fine line where it can get tacky so I want some outside perspective to keep me in check haha.

I agree about the survivor thing too. I've been having a great time learning new skills while working on/upgrading the car because I'm not afraid to make mistakes and ruin a piece of history. Goal is to have a car I can really enjoy and not feel guilty taking out in the rain.

Yes. When I first got mine painted and looking reasonable years ago, I was afraid to drive it. But then I asked, “Why do I have it?” You have to drive it. 👍

Your car looks great just like it was. The brighter yellow is awesome. My only recommendations would be to have body color side view mirrors and maybe not put the vinyl top back on yet. You can always add it later if you want. Stripes like you had them and the go wing has the right name, it needs to go. Can’t wait to see the finished product, it’s your car, do what you want.

Could not agree more.

Personal preference rules in this situation.

With the vinyl top that has style, It breaks up the size. It looks sleeker same as the stipes. Do as you like . I don't think you can't go wrong. an E body always looks good.

The Go wing has to go (Ford). The Gull wing is more stylish. Even a Duck tail is good. It's the accents that break up the lines.

That is exactly what im going with. Ditching the vinyl top entirely because I think it gives it a bit more of a "muscle" look and a little less vintage. However I agree with Challenger RTA in that it does break it up. My other big goal with removing it is eliminating rust ingress. I'll need to start a resto thread because after the amount of rust I've cut out and repaired on this car, I am doing everything possible to keep it that way.

Same with the mirrors, those are staying yellow this time. Figure if I dont like it, I can order a second set in black anyways.
