My 70 Challenger has a Pioneer cassette stereo, two 6x9 speakers in the back and had two 3" speakers in the center dash (obviously incorrect).

I think iv'e read that some cars had three speaker dashes. Did these cars have a stock option such as speakers in the kick panels under the dash?

Also, any recommendation on an after market stereo that would fit without modifying the dash?

here's a phot of my dash. does it looked modified?

no. generally, the outer speakers were NOT installed (never OEM from the factory) in the kick panels where one would not be able to hear the fidelity they may have had to offer. way, WAY too low to be respectable.

The OEM factory options were one-speaker, mono, in the center of the dash pad, and/or an addition of L+ R speakers (plus the center one) to the left and right of the center, still firing up towards the windshield.

My 70 Cuda has the R35 option. Which is an AM FM multiplex radio. I have the three speaker dashboard. No rear speakers and no kick panel speakers. As far as I can tell, this is all correct for the R35 option on the 1970 Cuda.

If you don't care if it's stock looking, just about any aftermarket stereo will fit. I have a Kenwood CD stereo with Bluetooth and cellphone capability in my 70 Challenger. Fit no problems and sounds good. And I can take calls, but the car is kinda loud. 😁
