For the sill plates, similar to inserting a copper wire and using the original screw(s)...
Use a nylon cable tie a.k.a. zip tie. Cut a short piece of the nylon material, bend to an L-shape, insert it in the screw hole, put the sill plate in place, and install the screw.

I bought a sheet metal nut insert that worked very well for items like the side mirrors mounted on the doors.
I recently replaced my tired chrome drivers mirror and added a passenger mirror with aftermarket painted mirrors using sheet metal nut inserts;

I have a nut rivet gun too and they work great!
