Tranny or shifter Issue

I have a 1971 Cuda 383 4 speed with Hurst shifter pistol Grip, The problem is the past owner had some work done on 2nd gear and now getting in reverse is the hardest thing I have ever dealt with, all other 4 gears feel great go in and out very smooth but trying to get in reverse you need to almost use 2 hands to get the shifter to move over and up into reverse. Any suggestions. Not a very good mechanic so any help would be great.

Check the shifter linkage to make sure it is adjusted correctly.
