So, I bought this car....

SOLD - 1970 Dodge Challenger Drag Car - Not running - Needs Repair

This will be my first restoration project. I have wanted a 1970 Challenger since I got the Gen 3 Challenger in 2009. Even before that, I wanted to restore an old car. I did not grow up in a family that restored or even worked on cars, so everything I know is learn as I go and it's not much as of now.

This is going to be a huge undertaking for me. The way I see it, this is a no dash vin, no fender tag car. It was originally a 318 car, so from what I understand it's not a rare car or anything. My plan is to restore it as a restomod/driver.

I am currently in the process of disassembly and almost done with pulling everything off. Then I will be working on metal work. It needs pretty much everything.

Here are some pictures of the progress so far.

Right now I'm leaning towards B5 Blue with a white interior. I've always wanted a B5 car, as you can probably tell with my custom racing stripes on my gen 3. Paint and interior is so far away right now though.

Welcome aboard and congratulations on your Challenger. How are you going to deal with getting the vin plate. State assigned?

Thanks for the welcomes everyone.

I haven't figured this part out yet. Probably going to try getting a reassigned Vin. I'll have to cross that bridge when I get to it.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I would get that figured out before dumping o ton of money into it. Keep us posted and best of luck with your project.

Has anyone on the site tried working with their state to have the original VIN assigned? Per the original listing of the car for sale, it says the VIN on the door sticker matches the cowl and rad support.

Maybe worth it if possible?? Maybe too risky, someone may have taken the missing dash VIN plate for their car? Maybe that is what is meant by "reassigned" VIN?

BTW, Welcome to FEBO!!

If this helps. In PA. I have seen the state send a metal tag to place on the vehicle. I don't recall if it was the original vin number, or it was an assigned number by the state. Thinking assigned by the state.

Does anyone know what this piece is called? My car is missing them and I am trying to find a place that sells them. Looks like as far as internal structure goes, only the upper sail panel area is available. Unless I buy the complete side that dynacorn made, which I might have to do anyways. I need to replace almost all of the side anyways and it might make more sense to replace it all at once.

I see an SE emblem on the hood, if that’s the original to the car, finding some of the SE parts for it might be a challenge. Take your time, be patient, and drive the wheels off of it when your done.

It's not the original hood. It's a fiberglass lift off hood.
