It is extremely nice to be in the middle of the country and not in the flats. Everywhere is reachable by driving. Glad yal are enjoying it up here, this is one of the most beautiful locations in the country.
I do have a car trailer, so if you are seriously stuck somewhere, you have my business card. Give a call.

Not an E body but in my old '76 D100 I got 13mpg highway/10mpg around town.

Stock, lo-po 400 short block, (maybe 8:1? probably more like 7.8:1) early '70s iron heads with small valves, Performer RPM intake, .484" Ricky Racer purple cam, (yep) rebuilt by me Holley 3310, generic headers, dual exhaust into single side pipe, basic electronic ignition, no vacuum advance. NP 435 truck 4 speed trans with granny first (basically 3 usable forward gears) 3.23 gears, 15" wheels. Aero as a brick, no tonneau cover.

I impressed myself with that result. Drove terrible when I first got it - sluggish, massive bog and just hemorrhaging gas. Took a LOT of tinkering to get it to accelerate and cruise smoothly - timing, transfer slots, idle screws, vacuum tuning, power valves, secondary spring... all of it. An A/F ratio gauge was instrumental in the process and was my initiation into EFI.

Was going to change the cam to a milder Hughes "RV" type cam but never got around to it before selling the truck.

I appreciate it! However I don't believe I have your business card? I'll have to check for it later. Otherwise, I'll stop by your place someday and pick one up. Thanks!

Hi All
I bought my 73 Challenger in 1978. It had a stock 340, Holly carb, 727, 355 8-3/4 with F70R14's. Not sure the carb was ever tunned correctly but it ran fine. Drove it for 100+K miles getting 14 or less MPG. Parked it and waited till I had enough time and money to restore it.
It is now fully restored and modified. Still has a 340 block but stroked and bored to 416. On the Dyno about 430HP and 490 Ft-Lbs.
Comp cam #20-812-9 Hyd
Edelbrock Air Gap Intake
Edelbrock performer RPM Al heads
750 Quick Fuel carb.
Dual cross over exhaust
727, 323 8-3/4, with 275/40R17
Estimated MPG is between 6 and 8
