Valve springs for a 318 stock?

Well springs were replaced and the problem persisted. Decided to go back to square zero and tackle header again and that was it. I've been replacing header gaskets for the past 2 years to the point where I was convinced that couldn't be the issue. I put a thick layer of exhaust repair on both...

Valve springs for a 318 stock?

Thank you. Yes, I what want to replace THAT one for the moment to give me the piece of mind of finally have found the noise. But definitely replace the whole lot in the near future. I just had the engine apart to replace the gaskets, I even did the lapping on all the valves but I had to rush...

Valve springs for a 318 stock?

Hi all, help again please. My car is a 318 stock (as far as I know). Originally 2 barrel, now 4. I believe I finally managed to track the ticking issue to a weak spring (I car turn it by hand and the rocker has some movement) (Lifters are new, all rods were checked and are all same height and...

3 speed wiper motor cap - does it look right?

All sorted. The contact on the cap was wrong, was sitting under the other contact. (Red line is the right position) After many tests, I got it sorted FINALLY, been fiddling with this for so long.... Thanks for the help anyway I had no idea about position for A, B, E bodies... I'm so happy...

3 speed wiper motor cap - does it look right?

Hi all. My wiper never went back down or even park (had no idea about the park thing) I always had to turn it off when it was back at the bottom of the windshield. Anyway, I removed switch and motor. I did the bench test (below) on the switch, it's all working. It looks like this long bit in...

Timing cover marks left or right?

Thanks. Engine is open, quite easy to find TDC right now. 😆

Timing cover marks left or right?

Wow that's very thorough. Thanks. Ok 2 marks on the balancer as picture. Now doing all this I found the engine is not original so that's probably why the marks are on the "wrong" side, someone swapped the engine at some point and probably used an old one. I'm going ahead and install the...

Timing cover marks left or right?

Hi all, I have a 73 Challenger, quite original in general. I never managed to find a timing mark until today when I removed the water pump. So the timing cover has the marks on the left side, under the water pump, making it absolutely impossible to see (like I said, I tried to identify it many...

Wiper switch broken - 3 speed

Good point. This is the one:

Wiper switch broken - 3 speed

Nope. It looks like the issue is really that bit I highlighted, no idea how it's called, little resistor. If I could bypass that, or connect any external one it might do the trick. I tested the wiper motor straight to battery and it works as it should, including park position.

    Is that the valve knocking?

Right, nothing new so far. Since I was going to open it, I decided to flush the water system first because - why not? Guess what? While the engine was running to temperature to activate the flushing, the knocking stopped! I turned the car off, had the carb loosen already and then the coin...

    Advice about camshaft

Thanks. The engine is knocking quite loudly. It has been suggested the can be a bad cam: If that's the case I'll have to replace the whole set anyway, right? Can't use old lifters with a new cam. Or maybe one bad lifter? Meaning a new set? I'll try to open the engine during the weekend and...

    Advice about camshaft

Thank you. So it doesn't matter which one I buy, I'll have to check the whole lot regardless? Might just replace lifters and rods of the cam is fine.

    Advice about camshaft

Hi all, I want to replace the whole lot cam/lifter/rods. I'm considering this Melling since it says it brings a bit of performance. The engine is standard with 4 barrel. The reason I'm considering items from Rockauto only is because they are very straightforward to send items to the UK. I can...

    Is that the valve knocking?

Thanks all. I'll need to replace timing chain anyway, will go with the whole lot of cam/lifters/rods. Might just do the rings as well.

    Is that the valve knocking?

The noise is getting louder, is that a valve issue? Here's a slow motion video where one can see/hear it exactly when the #1 intake goes down. What do I need to do here? Thanks.

Wiper switch broken - 3 speed

Hi all, I found my switch is not working. I never paid too much attention to it since I don't drive in the rain much. So it's a 3 speed, but it won't change speed when turning the knob, all 3 positions will deliver the same speed. Also it won't move to park. I removed it and saw that the...

    Timing again...

Now you got me thinking... I'll check again... As far as I remember one turn (timing mark aligned) was both closed and second turn it was exhaust/intake but I'll check. Quite difficult doing that without anyone helping.

    Timing again...

OK, finally an update... but I think I'm being really stupid and missing something? I did everything as per last post and after that, using a screwdriver, I rotated the oil pump until the distributor was sitting pointing #1 Cylinder. Quick RECAP: -Timing mark on 5 BEFORE -TDC with both valves...

    Timing again...

Here's where I am so far... I'm still doing suspension but HAD TO have a quick look into timing. I didn't touch anything, just checked where things are... so with the timing aligned (or so) the distributor is pointing to cylinder 2! (Maybe in this Car number 1 is on the LEFT? 😆) Did 2 full...
