Did you verify the accuracy of your timing marks to actually KNOW that your timing is at 28*? And that is not to say that there is anything wrong if in fact it is at 28*. 28* may well be the best possible total for your combo and circumstances.
My point being that most guys use the tab on the...
The simplest answer can be found on Google; 6-10 degrees Before Top Dead Center (BTDC).
If wanted, here is a little more information on timing our big blocks; Since the OP is working with a STOCK 383 we'll stay with that. Although these points will apply to many applications.
First off, the...
The ONLY thing a snubber is good for is to limit the upward travel of the yoke so that it doesn't put the rear joint in a bind. But if you put the snubber close enough to the bottom of the car to actually prevent that, it hits on every bump so the car rides like a log wagon.
Snubbers do...
Lately, new leaf springs have been a real crap shoot. You don't really know what you are going to get in terms of quality let alone ride height. Lots and lots of unhappy guys for numerous reasons.
I have used Helwig half leaf helper springs for decades. Quality stuff that you can adjust to your...

And you can either shim the bumper up, or the entire assembly to get it even higher. But if it is actually close enough to do any good, the car rides on it on bumps and causes the car to ride like a log wagon.
The only real...
Why do you guys feel compelled to publish your resume? Insecurity? Why can't you just let the content of your posts stand on their own? And why do you also feel compelled to twist my suggestions out of context? More insecurity?
The reason I don't have a lot of posts is because I only post if I...
This back and forth is good. It lets everyone see which responses are worthy of note. And which ones aren't.
And thank you for your resume to (try to) justify all that you have posted.
Any time someone who is not familiar and comfortable with front ends changes most anything in the front end (no matter who does it), I suggest the alignment be checked. At the very least, it is cheaper than a new pair of front tires should something be off and not addressed besides the possible...
Adjusting toe is part of an alignment. Rather than try for a 'close' measurement with a tape measure, I went with the 'to the degree' that a formal alignment gives. And confirms (or adjusts) the camber and castor as well. Seemed prudent.

So, the Street Demon is a "great carb" but is an "odd ball carb"? Only the OP can answer whether that answers his question. But the OP said NOTHING about an OE appearance. That is something that YOU introduced into the conversation all on your own. Then there's the small point that the carb is...
Lots of little things can cause some real headaches. Make sure that the conversion kit or K member that you choose properly locates the engine. There is almost no room for error. Choose your passenger side valve cover carefully, again due to possible clearance issues. Do you have a power brake...
The OP was asking specifically for information/experiences with the Street Demon and mentioned that he was also considering an AVS. He did not ask for opinions on 'other' carbs, of which there are many. So many that if everyone who had an opinion on 'other' carbs were to respond to him, his head...
There are a lot of youtube videos on the Street Demons. Most are very positive, but as with all things fuel delivery related, there are also some negative ones, too. Check them out. Here is one introductory video:
Before you make any changes, go to youtube and watch some videos on alignments. By knowing what measurements to make, you may just find that your alignment has changed. You are not necessarily trying to align the car yourself, only using the information to try to identify the issue.

It has been my experience that no carb is perfect for a particular combo today whether it be a new out of the box carb, or an original carb tuned for different fuels than are available today.
The KEY is to start with a carb that is as close as possible to what the combo wants, is easily tuned...
I don't know about some of the other newer carbs, but a former Carter engineer was part of the team that developed the Street Demon and built on the innovations of the old TQs while addressing some of their weaknesses and adding modern innovations.
Your opinions are noted. But you should also mention the true reason that TQs were/are used in Stock and SS.
Again, the TQs were/are good carbs. But even you date them by talking about their successes in the past tense.
Your experience is the key here, not the carb itself. They work for you...
Again, that works for YOU for the reasons you cite. All well and good. But they are definitely NOT for the average hobbyist and should not be recommended to them. That is the bottom line.
