    Fluid everywhere

Got the converter back and installed last Thursday. Put it through its paces and its all good now. In fact, it’s running smoother than it has the whole time I’ve owned it! Took it to the Gilmore muscle car show in MI on Saturday without issue. Had a good time and it’s a real treat to drive now.

Sent the converter off to PCT to have it rebuilt. Think I should leave it stock, or have them bump up the stall?

    Fluid everywhere

Great question. I noticed a vibration at interstate speeds before it broke that day. Could be bearings, or a fifty year old converter that just gave up. I’m hoping to get some advice on where to source a replacement converter. My usual parts places like Summit, etc only seem to carry...

    Fluid everywhere

Update I ended up opting to have the trans rebuilt and decided I might as well upgrade some internals at the same time since I aim to increase power later. I managed to get CRT to do the work and he got it back more quickly than expected, which was appreciated. Yesterday I was able to get it...

    Fluid everywhere

Managed to yank the trans last weekend. Tiny garage be damned! No obvious damage to the front seal or tc, but it can’t be leaking from too many places. If I change the seals myself is there anything I need to watch out for? Or am I better off tossing it at a shop? Swapping in a 500 would be...

    Check out my rear

Idk how I missed this. Late reply, I know…. 489 case. I like the 3.23s with the a904 I have now. Maybe I’ll swap to a a500 someday and want taller with the additional gear. The sure trac is niiiiiice. No regrets there. There’s just a tiny bit of “howl” after the gears get warmed up. Not sure if...

    Fluid everywhere

Pulled the '72 Barracuda out of storage, got it 3/4 way home before seeing smoke rolling out the back. Limped it home to find tranny fluid puking out the front of the 904's bel housing, spraying all under the bottom, and coating the exhaust. I'm guessing the front seal failed. Not the start to...

    Original rear sway bar

Ha! That explains why I couldn’t find it in any of my books. Thanks for the confirmations.

    Original rear sway bar

Is this rear sway bar original, or aftermarket? 72 Barracuda. I ask because the original brake lines (removed) don’t really have notches around the U bolts.

    Double axle gaskets?

Thanks for the confirmation. I suppose I will reinstall only one on each side and see where that gets me. I still can't figure out why there was two--I never had any issues--but if I have any trouble with end-play adjustment I can always add them back.

    Double axle gaskets?

Yes 8 3/4. The pdf doesn’t show the location of the backing plate. Also, I should have mentioned there was also a white “gasket” between the backing plate and the bearing housing.

    Double axle gaskets?

Working to reassemble axles after a gear change. During disassembly found two axle gaskets stacked between the backing plate and the axle flange on each side, for a total of four. These are the metal/rubber gaskets. Does anyone know if two stacked is “correct”? Any thoughts as to why double...

    Check out my rear

2.76 in an open carrier? I'm over it. Time for Dr Diff Sure-TracII and 3.23! First ever rear-end work for my father and me. How'd we do?? And axle tube is all prepped for paint. How did they come from the factory? Painted black? Bare cast?

    FOUND 72 power steering box

Hi, I’m in the market for a solution to a bent power steering input shaft on a 72 barracuda. I’m confident I can straighten the shaft if I have to, but I thought I’d ask here if anyone has a serviceable option. Thanks

Now that you mention it... I recently found out the input shaft on my 72's is bent! Is your steering box power?
