73 Challenger 340 AT doesn't seem to have the power I think it should

That camshaft will want somewhere around 14-16 degrees initial at idle. Then another 16-20 degrees mechanical advance by 3,000 rpm for a total (without vacuum advance) of 32-36 degrees. Your approximate 1.66 rotations of the driveshaft would indicate about a 3.23:1 rear gear ratio.

Anyone use Comp Cams roller rockers for SB?

Excellent rocker system. I have used them on a 600 HP small block for over a year.

    T/A with no oil pressure.

Got all the parts in, new custom camshaft and everything. Going to pick up the block and balanced rotating assembly tomorrow. I'll get to share the results of the rebuild with everyone but the owner, he died 4 days ago. Damn.

    T/A with no oil pressure.

Now have another 1970 standard bore 340 block out getting align honed, decked and bored to +.030". There was a standard/standard forged crank setting in the corner with a coat of surface rust that we'll take to .010/.010. Ross forged pistons and Scat rods going in. We'll redo the previously...

    T/A with no oil pressure.

Too bad this fix won't be that easy.

    T/A with no oil pressure.

The relief driver was right, the oil pressure dropped immediately. The bearing material seized the oil pump and broke the hex off the intermediate shaft. Instantly no oil pressure.

    T/A with no oil pressure.

So the owner has back surgery and cannot drive or shift the 4-speed for very long. Yet he just has to go for a ride so he enlists a friend to finish driving when he gets tired. The friend is so worried about driving a car as valuable as a T/A he spends most of his time watching gauges as he...

    360 with a stroker it...

Really? We have no idea what quality of 440 engine, transmission and installation this "mopar mechanic" will provide. I wouldn't touch that kind of project for under $10,000. Plus a cheap turn key 360 stroker will cost $10,000 in our shop.

Engine Vibration on 440 and missing cam esentric for fuel pump

Sometimes the cam cores come from the core producer without the fuel pump eccentric having been ground. The cam companies grind the lifter lobes, not the fuel pump eccentric. A couple of years ago I received a custom ground cam with the eccentric not ground. I called the cam company and had them...

    Mopar 400 Stroker

For the $2,500 budget they are all going to be the same quality and need to be checked carefully. I would just use the unbalanced 440 Source kit and have the pin fit checked and corrected and the assembly balanced by a good machine shop. More money available? Buy Molnar crank and rods and piece...

    New camshaft installation Q's

Follow Comp Cams cam break in advice and always, always, time the camshaft with a positive engine stop to get TDC, a dial indicator and a degree wheel. Dot-to-dot and hope it is right is a lazy, cheap way to operate. Jim LaRoy LaRoy Engines
