Hello, I just bought a 1970 383 shortblock for my cuda. Casting number 2468130-8 The engine was cast on 9/22/69, and assembled 11/2. There is a "383" on the pad, and a single "S" prefix. There is no vin stamp on the raised pad near the pan rail.

the moparts site says that the "s" might mean "special." I expected to see an "F" Does anyone know what the "S" might mean?

It's got flat top pistons, forged crank with a pilot bushing. Orange paint, 402 pan. thanks!

S383 may be a "dealer service block" While the letter in front of the displacement typically refers to the YEAR, S equates to 1962, and back then, they printed the first two digits of the engine displacement, "S38-DDD" where DDD is the date code.

Since you have confirmed its a 1969 block, I vote dealer-replaced "Service" engine block, and the pad above the oil pan lip, mid-block, passenger side, would be blank, in that case.
