Does anyone know if 1971 Challenger N code (383 Magnum engine) "convertibles" came with the black grille and black painted tail panel from the factory? I believe that the '71 R/T hardtops all came with them. There were no '71 R/T convertibles like there were in '70 which the '70 model year the R/T convertibles have those parts painted black. Thanks.

I read if the car was equipped with a factory high performance engine it also got the black grille and tail panel.
My car is a non R/T with a 340 and it is black in both places.

Thank you. The '71 N code convertibles that I've seen have the silver grille and body-color painted tail panel. This is a mystery. :)

My JH27N has argent grille and tailpanel and was a flat hood car originally. It also has the Black longitudinal stripes. That being said it was painted a different color at some point and then painted again back to the original EL5 all before the early ‘90s. My gut tells me the argent is correct at least on my car.

I remember seeing a picture of your JH27N EL5 car on here years ago, beautiful Challenger! Thanks for the information on the silver grille and tail panel.

I have a May SPD JH23H1B that came with an argent grille and tail panel. I believe the addition of the rubber bumper option on a Challenger in 71 resulted in a black grille and tail panel regardless of the performance level/engine. Also, the black 71 grille was molded black. If you have a grille that is painted black it’s been restored.

Thanks for the information. I have a '70 Challenger R/T JS27N0B convertible that has the black grille and tail panel but am looking at a '71 Challenger JH27N1B 383 convertible that's for sale. It has an argent grille and body-colored tail panel, thus my question. Thanks again.
