1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye Project Car for sale

For sale is my 1973 Challenger Rallye with matching numbers 340 engine with factory A/C and is a project car. This is a genuine Rallye A57 package car equipped from the factory with its original E55 340 4-barrel V8, D34 TorqueFlite automatic transmission, console shift, factory air conditioning, bucket seats, Rallye stripe package, black vinyl roof, and Light Gold (JY3) paint.

Documentation
  • Original VIN tag
  • Original fender tag
  • Numbers-matching 340 engine
  • Original Production Broadcast Sheet
  • Built at Hamtramck, Michigan
  • Scheduled production date October 10, 1972
I purchased this car from a friend who inherited 10 cars from his Uncle, who restored cars. The Challenger was essentially a barn find and had been stored for many years.

After purchasing the car I serviced it extensively, replacing the original Carter carburetor with a rebuilt Holley 4 barrel, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, oil and oil filter, transmission filter, transmission fluid, transmission pan gasket, rear differential fluid and gasket, antifreeze, upper and lower radiator hoses, power steering fluid and a battery.

The engine started right up and with the true dual exhausts it had a deep performance sound and sounded like a NASCAR. I have not run the engine in approximately 10 years.

The air intake was replaced at some point with an Edelbrock intake and different air cleaner but the car came with the original intake, 340 orange air cleaner, jack and spare tire.

I began purchasing parts to restore the car. I painted the seat frames, recovered the passenger front seat, the rear seats and found the original Production Broadcast sheet under the rear seat springs.

I removed the old carpet, all seating except the driver’s seat, removed center console, rear seat panels and some exterior items such as the front parking lights. The dent in the driver’s front fender was caused by a farm tractor that backed into it, not an accident.

Please note in the pictures the car is sitting on four jack stands.

I have an inventory of all the new parts purchased with part numbers (see below). Most new parts were purchased from Year One. Included in the parts package are:

- Drivers floor patch panel
- Used driver side Challenger fender
- Passenger side fiberglass fender
- Two restored/ tested power seat mechanisms from a Chrysler New Yorker model that fit
- Original rare NOS black emissions canister
- New Mopar power trunk latch and switch
- Service and parts manuals and a service CD.
The total documented purchase cost of the parts is $7,916.

I am pricing this car fairly based on its condition as a restoration project and the rarity of its factory options and drivetrain.

This is a rare opportunity to restore a desirable E–body Mopar with its numbers–matching 340 engine, factory Rallye package and strong structural foundation. Of the 32,596 Dodge Challengers produced for 1973 only 8,412 were equipped with the 340 cubic inch V8 engine and only 6,653 were equipped with the TorqueFlite automatic transmission.

This Challenger is a factory JY3 Honey Gold (Light Gold) Rallye 340 car that was also originally equipped with a black vinyl top, black Rallye stripes, and factory air conditioning. The combination of Rallye package, numbers matching 340 engine, factory air conditioning, and original JY3 color makes this an uncommon and desirable restoration project.

This car retains its numbers-matching 340 engine and comes with a large collection of included parts. The frame rails, rocker panels and door bottoms appear solid, providing an excellent foundation for restoration.

I am selling this 1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye together with all included parts for $34,900. Reasonable offers will be considered.

This car is sold with a current Connecticut registration in my name. I also have a prior Connecticut title from a previous owner. Connecticut no longer issues titles for vehicles more than 20 years old.

This Challenger is being sold AS IS, WHERE IS with no warranties expressed or implied. The vehicle is located in Lebanon, CT 06249. Please contact me by PM with any questions or if you would like specific photos of any area of the car including engine, drivetrain, body, underside, etc. Please view additional pictures in my reply to this listing.

Thank you,
Randy
