71 Challenger Elastomeric Bumper Question

I'm looking at swapping out a chrome front bumper for an elastomeric unit on a 71 Challenger. One of my friends said that the cars with the factory installed elastomeric front bumpers also had fender extensions. I have never heard about these extensions from any other source. Are the extensions a real thing? If so, are they necessary and are they available?

Unlike the Barracuda, the 1970s Challenger did not come with things like the Elastomeric bumper and Road Lamps. Those were Barracuda-only.
