90 Degree Oil Filter gasket question

Got the gasket set from Mancini for the 90 degree oil filter adapter. It has the cork gasket which I assume goes on the bolt between the block and adapter. And the thin one goes between the attachment bolt and adapter. Seems strange to have that cork gasket inside there. I now discovered that a few other places seem to have a better than the cork gasket, but the pictures are not as clear as I'd like. Wouldn't the cork break down after time. I'm getting close to priming the motor so I am wanting to do this the best way possible. Rockers on.jpgAny comments would be appreciated.

I would use the cork in that position to allow the cork to compress and allow the adapter to go tight enough to seal the adapter so you don't get an external oil leak.
Been a while and my memory is not so good - there is also a pipe plug to install in the block - 1/4 NPT I think.

i think the thick cork is to seal between the block & the 90 degree housing to stop dirty unfiltered oil blowing back down the thin area between the bolt & the hosing

Thanks guys. So here are the photos of that area. Looks like the block has been "plugged" properly and the two bolt gaskets are in the correct spot. Final question, do you use any sealant or soak the cork gasket with something like WD40 in a similar fashion as carb gaskets, or does the cork gasket get installed dry? I can not find ANY installation documentation as how to do this in any of my Mopar books or online. Correction, one guy on YouTube talks a little bit about the gaskets, but more about blowing leaving off his lawn, funny. And Happy Mothers Day to all our Mom's - Cheers!

Install them dry. The oil will soak into the cork gasket. After about 30 years the cork might get hard and crack and maybe cause a leak. So in 25 years when doing that oil change, put in new gaskets. 😁
