Opened a 70-72 challenger front unit at a shop. new out of the box. test fitted factory bumperettes, the mount shapes are way off. They will not bolt up.
There were differently different bumpers for different years. 1970 is unique as it didn't have slots for the newer bumper jack (some early 71 cars had the 70 bumper) . I can't remember if it was 72 or 73, but the bumper shape changed because a metal bar was added between the brackets and bumpers to allow for better crash protection (73 and 74 had this extra metal bar for sure). Brackets changed too. 1972 was different than the other years, but I cannot remember why.
Im thinking they're stamping the new repos to the 73-73 shape and selling as 70-72 because the one I tried from AMD is shaped same as my factory 73. I am now using a late 71 produced (June/July?) bumper, has the latest revision of corner squares but has the first pre run of jack slots. And I mounted it on the factory 73 brackets that were slid back on the frames. Only a slight grind/touch on the top curve to flatten it was required to get them exact. Confusing. I mean there were 4 revisions in 1971!
