Just putting this out there for someone that knows better. The are two positions on the brake pedal. One hole for manual and one for power brake. Gives a different leverage. Not sure if that's the case. I would have to look. I know the rods are different. Just a dim light that came on.

Swap to manual successful, mostly. Finally got a day off work and bolted it up today. Bench bled the master, bled all four corners, pedal feels good when the engine is off so I took it out for its first ever drive with the new motor. They stop, but they're wayyyy too soft so I'll need to do some tinkering. I'm guessing I either didn't do a good enough job bleeding the master before install, or I need to adjust the pedal rod better.

bleeding the master
About that. Pump slow so your not aerating the brake fluid. I have also made up short line that turn up to the reservoir to clear air in the master cylinder.

One time I got stuck with the mechanic on a pipeline job. Excellent Excellent heavy equipment mechanic! Good W Virginia miner. 6'6" and have 2 chickens for dinner. We also fixed all the trucks. They were all Fords. Well there's the problem to start! Any how he put clutch cylinder on one and couldn't get it to pump up. A couple different days when I had some spare time. I would spend 15mins or so pumping and bleeding. Would not pump up. One time I just started pumping slow and feeling the peddle. I would pump it up only to the point there was some peddle feel then bleed. keep doing that until there was full pedal. I can't say if it was the way it was pumped and bleed or just pumping slow. Not aerating. By slow I mean 3-4 sec to pump the let go easy too.
