As the title ask, do I need the adapter to run long tube headers on my Challenger with a small block? I had headers on my '70 Challenger, but it was so long ago that I can't remember to tell the truth.

No, you can use a Fram PH3614 oil filter and not use the 90 degree adapter

As I said, IF you want to use a longer filter and you can angle the filter to your liking. But you don't Have to. Their website has that info and says to use a "short filter or an angle adapter."

5. OIL FILTERS:
SHORT SCREW-ON STYLE OR A 90º ADAPTER CAN BE USED
