Fuel Line Size and Configuration Help Needed - 70 Challenger

Have a 1970 Challenger, 440-4. Car under restoration and fuel lines and tank long gone. I think it uses a 3/8" main line. Also, I can't remember if the car had the 5/16" return line or not. I looked at some cars locally and I see both with and without return.

Can you guys please advise me on this. Thanks.
 
The return line is for vapor, and you actually can get away without it, but you may have venting issues, gas odors in the garage etc. You should run one and 5/16 will be fine, even if you later upgrade to fuel injection. Some California cars may have had different valve cover breathers, if memory serves.

Do you know if the 440-4 ran with 3/8" main, or 5/16" main. I bought 3/8" main think the 440-4 used it, but the replacement sending units for 440-4 show 5/16" They only show 3/8 for 440-6 and hemi.

It's confusing, but guess it doesn't hurt to upgrade to 3/8".

What do you recommend?

Depends how you are going to drive it. 5/16 is fine for a cruiser/ daily driver, but if you like to drive it hard in the quarter, or at top end, you will drain the float bowls and get fuel starvation.. I agree, doesn't hurt to upgrade.
 
the fuel vapor line was 1/4'' originally, i am not sure if you can get a 5/16'' return line. but i must agree with adam go for the 3/8'' main line it will serve you much better in the future.
