Harmonic Balancers

I was looking at new harmonic balancers for my freshly rebuilt 360 and am seeing under "notes" on some of them that some are for auto, and some are for manual trans.

What is the difference? It's going in front of a 4-speed, but am curious why it makes any difference to an externally balanced engine.

The racing/SFI balancers I looked at do not make any distinction, so they work on both auto and manual? If so, why do they and not the less expensive stock ones? This motor is just going into a daily driver, not a dragster.

Thanks in advance for any input...

there should be no difference unless the outer ring is pinned somehow to prevent it spinning on the inner hub

OK. Still seems odd to me. I have much more experience with RB motors and I know of no difference in the balancers insofar as trans choice. Just Cast vs Forged crank Ext/Int balanced.

Sure would be a bother to get this motor in and find that I have the wrong one - Obviously...
