Building a 416 stroker for my 70 AAR. Wanting to keep the look of the original chrome tips, but with headers 3' head pipes to 3' power stick mufflers (skipping the u turn mufflers} into the chrome Trumpet tips. The baffle has to go for sure inside, but after looking beyond that looks like about a 2" hole for the exhaust flow. I saw some chinesium high flow from a company but now there not available. I was wondering if anyone has sourced or fabbed new ones for a better flow Thanks in advance.

I welded a pair of old Megs megaphone style tips on one of my buddy's cars before. I just cut them back for the 2-1/2" dia pipe we needed. I never heard anyone comment that they didn't look factory. At least not from the average street crowds. Now, the true date coded, numbers matching weenies would probably have freaked out.

Hey, number matching weenies have their place. 😜

It's nice to see an all original car from time to time. Sadly, few truly know what is 100% factory correct these days. But cars, in my opinion, were made to be modified and driven like a mad man (or woman) from time to time!!

I like a numbers matching car but you tend to not drive them as much. Kinda glad the original motor is gone, give me a clean slate to at least modify some of the mechanicals of the car while maintaining the original look.

Went and measured the original ones diameter. I knew it would be quite invasive, 😁 , but I can cut it off and weld the 2 1/2" exhaust to the 4 or 5" piece left of the conical trumpet end. reweld the hanger and have it chromed for the original look or paint it black. thinking chrome.

Just slip your stock tip into the larger exhaust pipe you want to use, Mark the tip where it snugs up inside the new pipe and cut it off where needed and remove the baffles.

Yes thats what i was thinking but it will be past the baffles closer towards the end of trumpet flare to catch the 2 1/2" that I will be using. I was looking beyond the baffles and I was thinking it is around a 2" diameter at that point and it looks like the factory flattened the bottom of it for look or ground clearance.
