ignition wiring harness

I am putting a new switch harness in steering column. the new one only has 4 wires in connector and a big black and a red wire with connectors on both of them. the old one has 8 wires in it. do I switch wires from old connector to the new one? where do I put the red and black wires? do they go in connector or somewhere else. this is in a 72 challenger
