Hey everyone, I’m picking up a 71 that is a basket case . It has its front wheels but is missing the rear axle. I do not have access to the car to get any measurements and need to build little cart to stick under the rear of the car to get it onto a roll back wrecker so that it can be delivered to my shop.

I’m looking for the measurement from the GROUND to the bottom of the frame rail in the arch over the axle.

I understand there are variables such as suspension setup/tire size… etc… I’m just looking for ballpark and not precision. I just don’t want to build the cart to short and have the car aimed nose high and I also don’t want to build the cart to tall and have it be nose down and tippy.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Just off the top off my head. From the very top of the wheel well to the ground is about 2'. There is only about 6" of ground clearance from the rockers to the ground. Go a little more.

This is what I would build to move the car around. I made similar dolly for the front of my car. I bought large casters from Harbor Freight and some metal from a local metal shop, welded it together and it worked great. These dollies for the rear of the car bolt to the rear leaf spring front mount. If you have the ability to weld I would make a pair.
