Looking for some help on the date code for this. Is it an early build date 70 with the 240, or a late build 70. I beleive this is the passenger side. Any insight would be appreciated. thanks

I believe in this case the 240 is likely the 240th day of 1969, and it is the casting date. In the area circled should be more numbers, finely stamped. Another date code, year, and shift - these I believe are from when the caliper was actually assembled.

I sure had to look close to see anything. I see a 27 then some space and then a 9 then a shorter space then a 2. Not sure if this is enough for a date or is there more that I am missing. Thanks for the info and maybe this will give you some more clues.

Most likely another digit after the 7 that wasn't stamped deeply enough to be legible after flash rusting.
So assembled on the 270th+ day of 1969 (9) second shift (2).

That’s starting to make sense. I will take another look. The 9 was almost illegible. Thanks again.

I got out a wire brush and found the missing number, it is a "3". It was even harder to read/see than the "9". So, this would be the 273rd day of 1969. I can't thank you enough for the help on this. And yes, the numbers are not stamped that deep into the part as the casting.

Here’s an unstaged photo of one of mine I have on my phone, the numbers can sort of be seen.

Trying this again, for some reason the first photo of the full date didn't load correctly. I had to wire brush off the surface rust and then highlighted the first digit. Hope this helps.
