Lower cuda grill color

I've noticed the lower grille assembly being painted light gray or dark gray on some cars. Mine appears to have never been painted and the same for my 73 cuda with this light tan plastic color. I'm just wondering what is correct

I believe they were painted light gray from the factory. Others will confirm or correct me.
