From what I have seen lately, prices are declining... Don't assume its a POS (certainly could be) a lot of 60/70's muscle is not selling nearly as strongly has it has in the past. Fact is that the enthusiasts for these cars is not a growing community, it is aging out and become much more selective in what it pays top dollar for. While the "gold rush" of high muscle car prices were directly responsible for a lot of good things such as the development and sales of good restoration parts it also was directly responsible for the flooding of the market of anything and everything being build/painted and brought to auction. So there are a lot of mediocre cars out there and a lot of good cars but the buyers are not there in the same numbers with the same amount of cash to throw around.

The big money is going towards rare/unique cars as well as very well done customs/restomods. Many of the popular car shows are singing the praises of restomods/customs and this is showing up at the auctions.

You don't have to like it but that is where it is going.

They don't sell turds at Mecum. Certainly not advertised showings. For past 2 years prices have been stable. If not fallen a bit. At least on the auction front. Cars are still over priced on sale sites in my opinion.

There are turd cars at every auction. Did you look at the pictures real close? “Older restoration completed in 1994“. That’s a 28 year old restoration. Nobody is going to pay big bucks for a 28 year old car in the middle of the week. They saw it in person we didn’t.

lets see how the rest of the weekend goes before we make the statements that prices are declining.

What are you? The hall monitor? I chimed in on this thread because topic is not a parts hunt. That was the bash. I jumped on and first 2 screens was just parts forsale? Or parts wanted. But auction trends? Effects both E and B. And accept for 2ng Gen Charger? (Which has gone nuts) it appears prices have stabilized. Is this because other models and manufacturers are getting more attention than in past? Probably.

Not at all. But I have seen the same thing happen over on the B-body site too. That is part of what these sites are about. Peace, brother.

Not at near the percentage. But it might be the nature of the beast? E-bodies only existed 5 years. And only 2 base models. I posted having a line on a lower model '70 Cuda project that has the parts I could really use on my '70 Cuda project. The delema? Do I really weaken one build to advance another? 1970 Cuda is one of very few American production vehicles that would even have this "car ethics" issue if you would?

I believe I have the winter to ponder. But again. "Just the nature of the E-body market?"

I believe the convertibles are getting the big money due to their rarity. They are rare because nobody wanted them back in the day? They sucked. They inflate at speed causing more resistance. Heavier. And poor materials made them very vulnerable to rips and framing failures. Thus they weren't beat on as much. Leaving them in better condition than hardtops in today's options. Also back in the day? We were not at all concerned with numbers matching. It was all about performance. And what can a kid do to improve?

Again. Today's collectors in my opinion totally misses the point of muscle car ownership and appreciation. Pushing it to a show and rubbing it with a cheese cloth would have been laughted at back in the day when they ran supreme. I could hear it now. "Hey Rockefeller! What do you think you got there? A Duesenberg?"

Just my opinion of course.
