I’ve owned my AAR since 1985 and always thought it had the original engine. I recently pulled the engine and the numbers don’t match. It’s a trans am engine, but it’s out of a Challenger (so I’m told). The number on the block is OB 283998. I’m told the T/A may be in Wisconsin. I’d like to reunite the engine and the car and hopefully in the process find my car’s original engine - number 291024. Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

I would post this information on all of the E body sites you can find and see what happens. I don't know that I would let go of the one you have until you have a replacement, perhaps if the car yet exists the owner would be willing to find a replacement engine (assuming the one for your car is not available)

Also, it will help to duckduckgo or google search and post the actual vin numbers instead of just the stamps.

It may help to contact the T/A Registry ran by Barry Washington. The registry also has a lot of original T/A and AAR owner information from the Special Interest Auto Club (SIAC) which was an early T/A-AAR owner club based in Columbus, Ohio. The club had a newsletter called the "All-American Racer". I have a stack of these from 1982-1984. Needless to say, there was no Internet so clubs, newsletters, and shows were the only way to trade information. 😬

Maybe Barry has a lead on JH23J0B283998 and additional history on your AAR BS23J0B291024.

After my post above, I checked my collection of fender tag photos and found JH23J0B283999 but not JH23J0B283998. Just one VIN later.
