In late 73 my dad ordered a 74 challenger. Picked it up in Wisconsin in December 73 when he came back stateside. He was then stationed at the then air force base in burns flat (western) Oklahoma. Few years went by. He got married. Started a family. Let it go. I was born in 80. No siblings. The car was gone before I was born. Tragically my father passes when I was 8. I’ve had a few pictures of this car. Found an old emblem. Searched everywhere I could think of as a teenager and through my twenties and thirties. Never could find it. A couple years ago my mom passed. While going through stuff I found the original invoice. Now I had the vin. I posted in September on b bodies only in lost and found. It turned up a week ago Saturday. Two days ago it made its way home from San Diego. That a thousand miles from Oklahoma. It’s not the same. Wrong front clip. Wrong color. But it’s definitely my dads car. It’s finally home. After searching my entire adult life and then some. After 24 years of searching. 40 plus years of being gone. It’s home.

There are just so many cool things about your story. I'm glad it is back with you!! Also, I'm glad the previous owner was will to sell it back. If nothing else, fix it in a way that makes you happy, and create memories in it with your family.

So far my plans for it are just drive it. Tinker on it. I’m putting an r/t hood back on it. A bit of info on how I found it. I posted in lost and found over there. It came up for sale on Craigslist in California. A guy looking for one found it. He googled the vin and it took him to my post. He then joined the forum just to let me know where it was. Sent me the link. It was a great service of that guy who helped me out. A total stranger. I’m very great full to him. It’s been very emotional but I’m so glad I found it and brought it back. I had never even laid eyes on it before. Didn’t know any of the previous owners since my dad traded it in before I was born. Even when it was in the back of my mind I still wondered where it went. What happened to it. Was it still around or sent to the crusher. I was in tears for a week after finding it. It’s even better than you would imagine. I’m named after my father so i just put it back in his name. I have the original invoice for it with my name on it. The original selling dealership is sending me the paperwork that they have also. It’s so awesome. I’m very blessed. I say thanks to all the people who help complete strangers dreams come true. Thank you all.

Does it still have the 72 taillights? Are you also going to put the 72 fenders and grille back on it? A great find for sure. Enjoy it. By the way, in the one old photo, it shows the big amber lights mounted on the front bumper in front of the grille. I remember those type of lights. It looks like the front bumper on the car now was the original front bumper drilled for mounting those lights. I'm glad it's back in your family.

It still has 72 up tail lights. I’m probably gonna just leave the 70 grill and fenders. The lights on the bumper in the old photo were red. My dad was a cop. My uncle says they were hooked to flashers. It had police radios and the such too

Are the rear side marker lights filled in or just blacked out with paint?

They have tape inside over the holes. I have the lights though. And all the trim. It all came in the trunk.

Original purchase agreement. The dealership emailed me this and sent the original copy. Special ordered in October 73.
