Long time member of CC.com and E-Bodies.org. In Oct. of 1969 I went to the local Plymouth dealer, sat down with the salesman and factory ordered a new ' 70 triple black 'Cuda, with the 383 Super Commando engine, 4-speed with console, and 3.55 sure grip rear end, and black vinyl top. It had AC, but no power steering, AM-FM Stereo multi-plex radio with rear speakers and fader, and rear window defroster. $4200 OTD. It was probably a one of one car. I ordered it with steelie wheels as I knew as soon as I got it I was going to have mag wheels installed. Got married, had kids and sold it for $2800 in 1973 for something bigger. I actually had a hard time selling it because of the 4-speed, no power steering and the first OPEC gas crisis and the 383's 12 MPG.
In 2009 I bought a '70 'Cuda basket case that had been in storage since 1983. It is a matching numbers 440 "U" code, 4-speed and console, Dana 60, OEM N96 Shaker hood, Super Track Pack car with it's original AM 8-track radio, black vinyl top, and 15" factory rally wheels. It was originally Lemon twist yellow but when I restored it I went back to my roots and made it triple black like my original 'Cuda.
The original numbers engine is on a engine stand in my shop. I'm currently running a 440 with a 512 stroker kit, custom Bullet brand hydraulic roller cam, Pro Max aluminum heads, Holley dominator aluminum intake, Quick fuel 880 CFM carb, TTI ceramic headers with a TTI 3" X pipe exhaust system with electric cutouts. It dyno'd at 530 HP.
