I have a 8 3/4 with a 3.23 gear and a 360 engine, stock, 727 trans, no headers. At 60 mph it revs at about 2900 rpm. To reduce the rpms, should I go to 2.76 gears or convert to a overdrive unit? I want to make this my daily driver but with the price of gas these days, I'm not sure. I drive mostly freeways. Thanks

Gears are cheaper overall but personally I would use OD , the 518 is virtually a bolt in with some wiring for the OD & the lock up function .
Increasing the engine efficency will help a lot too , tuning the carb well or using EFI , picking a cam that build a lot of cylinder ressure at 2500 RPM , getting better flowing exhaust etc will all help .

Thanks. I was looking at an OD conversion and fuel injection. I'm on the fence about EFI since I hear more negative things about it. I've searched many websites and blogs.

When FI fails where do you begin to trouble shoot? Carbs, you have gas or you don't to troubleshoot. My 05 Ram with 5.7, almost 20 years old and 104,000 miles has never failed to start. I got a check engine light and code said 02 Sensor. Engine has 4 sensors, 2 for each bank, and I was lucky enough to replace the bad one. The after market FI that I've used has only 1 02 sensor. I know Chrysler put 4 in for a reason, otherwise they would save money by not installing that many.

If you don't drive it much, do the gears and taller tires. But if you really want to enjoy the car, OD is the best option. Best thing I've done is add the 518, so much more enjoyable to drive without the RPMs screaming.

I agree with slapping. 518 (46rh) behind your 360. A couple webs cut on the transmission housing and a new cross member makes it easy to bolt in.
