I feel your pain. Hard to fix them snap, crackle, and pops. Great cereal in the day. Believe it will be a quick fix car doesn't have all the bells and whistles.
I had tightened the rear shocks, and the leaf spring bolts. They both needed tightened. That helped a bunch. Had the front end alignment twice, and still not right.
For the front alignment, find an old guy in his 60s or older. Tell him to put as much caster and camber as he can. He'll know what you want if you say that. If not, find another guy. The current alignment on my 70 Challenger was done that way 25+ years ago and Kitten still rocks the corners!
A young buck did mine twice. Had her out numerous occasions. Afraid to do over 60mph. She floats like a boat. That place is the only place around here that aligns the older cars. Will remember caster, and camber.
I use a tape measure 7 a digital lever to do alignments , I set up a friends car , it drove great but he didn't trust it & paid for a "pro " alignment on the way back from the alignment he asked if I could reset it back where I had it as it drove far better ,
BAsically you want max caster moving the top ball joint as far back as possible then 1/2 degree of Neg Camber & a 1/16 " of toe , the factory specs are for bias ply tires , doesn't work with radials !
