Well I hope these pics help (they're pics of pics). Looks like my latch is different from yours or your spring tab is broke off (not sure) and your hood spring is 9 coils tall to my 6 so that spring may be putting a lot more pressure on than needed I assume you WD40'd your latch and it is free as well as your cable moves freely.

Thanks! Great pictures! How does the bracket attach to the vertical latch support? I see 2 holes in the vertical support -- does the bracket screw to those 2 holes? I know it's not likely you have a picture of the end view of the bracket but I assume it's U-shaped or Z-shaped so the screws can attach it to the vertical support?

So yes the bracket is 'Z' shaped with the bottom of the 'Z' only wide enough to fit inside the latch support. The latch support has weldnuts on the back that the 2 bracket mounting screws go through. Your best bet to find one is posting in 'wanted' here on this site, or swap meet like Nats or possibly Stephens Performance.

What kind of screws or bolts (and size) are correct for holding the "hood release cable bracket" to the latch support? There are two holes in my latch support and the sheet metal of the support "protrudes" rearward around the two screw holes. I thought they may be sheet metal screws but nothing I can find fits. The holes in the latch support sheetmetal don't appear to be threaded for bolts.

Upon looking at photos posted by Dadeo1852 the screws appear to be Phillips pan head screws. Right? Are they self tapping machine or sheet metal screws? I can't seem to find any screws that fit the holes. Are they coarse or fine threaded screws?

My latch support doesn't have "weld nuts" on the back for the screws that hold the hood release cable bracket.

It has two holes but they are deformed around the holes so the metal protrudes (like a funnel shape) toward the rear of the car. Like it would for sheetmetal screws to grab onto

Thanks so much again! The screw is hard to remove but maybe a picture of the tip of the screw sticking out of the latch support would be enough to help us identify it.

Mine has #8 pan head sheetmetal screws.

Thank you Quapman! Between you and dadeo1852, I think I got this figured out! It took more than a Philips screwdriver to gently force the correct pan head screws through the holes in the latch support - makes me think those holes were never used before. They were "virgin" if you will pardon the analogy. I had to use small visegrip pliers on the head of the screw to turn them in. I'm working with the grill in place so there's room for a stubby screwdriver but not more. Couldn't get a good grip on the handle. Having driven the screws in once now, they can turned using a stubby philips driver.

Ok here you go. Got to agree with Quapman also, looks like #8 x 1/2"lg pan head to me same as used on those spring loaded hood alignment wedge to fender and also the windshield washer squirter to bottom side of the hood mtg screws.
