replace ignition switch

trying to replace the ignition switch...according to the shop Manuel the entire steering column has to be pulled. Is there another way????just went through loosening the column to link to new steering box. real pita
 
You can do it. It's still not fun. You'll have to remove the obvious tomato can and then eventually you'll get to the lock plate and it needs to come off. It's held on by a pin that Miller Tool C4113 makes simple to remove, but you can use a punch and hammer which is pretty crude. Just be careful! And of course the shaft is going to be in the middle of everything. So you can see why they suggest removing the whole column.
