My 1970 Cuda has been missing its original fuel cap since before I bought it in 1984. I have a generic Gates cap that works but is annoying to turn as it is a smooth dome versus the factory Stant cap.
The cap must fit the 1970-only 1-1/2" filler neck opening under the license plate. A reproduction is available and I have passed up purchasing one many times for approximately $85 or so. Quite a bit of $ for something so simple and down-right cheap for other makes and models of cars. A few months ago I decided to bite the bullet and buy one but it was "out of stock". Now it is available again but the price is now $127.
I am not worried about the factory-correct version with stamped VEN TED ANTI SURGE at this point.
Pictured are the factory cap, the correct repro cap, the Gates dome cap, and what may be a more reasonably priced $58 alternative with raised ANTI SURGE VEN TED.
There are tons of them on the web for far less $.
Does anyone know if there is a more correct-looking cap out there that works for the 1-1/2" filler neck? Maybe for a GM like the last photo?
