Speedometer not working

Hi Guys
Speedometer is not working on my 73 Cuda after having installed a new 62" cable. Wondering if there is any way to determine if it is the actual speedometer or something else. Appreciate any info . Thanks

Did it work before?
Pull cable end out of speedo, take it for a drive and see if it's turning.

Not sure if it worked before as just bought the car. But that is a good idea - never thought of that. Will try - Thanks

Note which way it turns.
Next step will be attaching a drill to other end and seeing if the speedo is the problem.
I believe its CCW, but check that.

Turns out the cable wasn't engaged all the way into the speedo. Had slipped out just enough to disengage- works fine now. Thanks a lot for the help
