When I turn the steering wheel I hear a squeak like the bearings are dry. I know there is a bearing in the top of the column. What is the best way to lubricate that bearing short of disassembling the column?

It could be the horn contact running dry - more likely than the bearings.
Remove the steering wheel and lubricate.

Did you resolve your problem? If so what did you find?
Two things: where the horn contact touched the copper plate under the steering wheel was dry, so I put a VERY light coat of dielectric grease on the copper contact area. Second was the steering wheel was not tightened like it should have been. All nice and quiet now!
