Trunk Catch Finish

Hi.
Is the original finish on the trunk latch plate attached to the trunk lid painted or zinc?
I have researched in books and online and I see both.

good question I had mine cad plated

Mine was zinc plated under layers of paint - I am not sure it looks like it may have been painted over with the factory colour.
I cannot be sure as the car has definitely had paint work in the last 50 years.
I was hoping someone with a survivor car might chime in.
It is only a small thing but it would be nice to know.

I found out the answer when I was reading the excellent MMC Detroit guide by David Wise and Byron Fettig.
Most cars the trunk latch was painted in place but some are left zinc plated.
So both ways could be correct.

This was how my car was to.
I paint stripped the lid catch and it was zinc plated under the paint.
