On your 5.7/6.4 Hemi Swap what upper and lower radiator hoses did you use? I have a Auto City Classic Radiator where both inlet and outlet is on the passenger side. If you used a Champion Rad or similar where the inlet and outlet are on the passenger side, it would be similar.

Well...not much response here. So in looking further I found that Gates has a molded hose catalog with some dimensions and a photo of the actual hoses. About page 110 is the hose pictures. The catalog is linked below. I looked through the catalog, found some that might work. I plugged those part numbers into Rockauto and they have a 360 spin view of the hose. I was able to scratch a few off the list based on that view. I ordered a few upper and lower hoses. The catalog beats wandering around the parts store. Give me a bit of time and I will reply back on what I found.

I was an Auto Parts Store owner for many years. I can tell you that your best option would be to know what you need and go into a full service auto parts store and have them let you look at all of the hoses. I have done this many times myself when I had a fitment issue...

Just throwing this out there, if it's a down flow radiator (as opposed to a cross flow), I prefer the inlet and outlet to be on opposite sides. Proven better cooling that way.

This is what I did to find hoses for my swap. I used to work for the local Car Quest owner and he had no problem with me going through his hoses to find what would work for me. I took some coat hanger wire and bent them in the shape I needed for the two hoses and armed with that and the inlet/outlet sizes for each hose I spent some time at the store and found what I needed. It can be a process!

Those Carquest guys are pretty good. I sold three stores to them in 2001. I'm Quite happy with them !!

After looking through the Gates hose catalog and using the Rockauto 360 view of the hoses, I ordered three different upper hoses. Gates 22039, 22900 and 20559. All of these hoses have an 1-3/4" end at the thermostat housing and 1-1/2" end at the radiator. The photos below are the hoses as they arrived. I slipped them onto the thermostat housing to see where they ended up. All of the hoses had potential possibilities after being cut a bit. For the upper hose, I ultimately chose the Gates 20559. I cut about 3/4, maybe an inch off each end, and it fits nicely. I chose this one as it just fit the best with my car. I used a Auto City Classic hemi swap radiator. You might have different needs based on what your choices were.

On the lower hose, I am still thinking this one through... The lower hoses all have a 1-3/4" end to them. The engine and my Auto City Classic radiator use the 1-3/4" size, with everything on the passenger side. The general issue here is that the lower hose, the lower hose connection on the radiator, and the oil filter on a 45 degree adapter, all want to be in the same space. I could probably get a couple of these hoses to fit, but pulling the oil filter might be a chore. The hoses I purchased were:
  • Dayco 71954 - This one has the best possibility of working
  • Gates 20609 - This is the one Bouchillion suggests for their radiator and swap system
  • Gates 20225 - Thought this might have possibilities, but no
  • Gates 20958 - Stock lower hose for a small block e-body. Might also work, but may make removing the oil filter difficult.
I may use portions of a couple of these hoses and splice them together with a 1-3/4" barbed hose splice and a couple Gates Power Grip shrink clamps. This might give me the hose "clocking" I want and the clearance to remove the oil filter. The 20609 has the best possibilities for filter clearance if I cut and re-clock the hose. I'd rather not cut the hose, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Now I have some hoses to return...
