The driver's door on my 70 Barracuda won't open from the outside handle. The door opens fine from the inside. I tried opening the door from the outside and watched the linkage attached to the handle. Everything seems to be moving. I noticed that some of the plastic clips that hold the rod to the handle and the lock mechanism, have beed replaced.I tried adjusting the striker, no change. I have had the car for only a few months. I have no idea what the problem is. Thanks

I remember some kind of problem with the outside handle getting disconnected from the rod that operates the opening mechanism. If the door is locked and you force the outside handle something on the handle breaks disconnecting the rod. Hopefully you can open from the inside and see the problem. Another piss poor design on the E bodies. Handle should have been able to move even though it would not open the door when door is locked. you may have to replace the O/S door handle to fix the problem.

Everything is connected and nothing looks bent, I pulled the latching mechanism and tried to clean and lube everything, The only thing that I can see is there are new plastic clips that hold the rods in place. Does it matter what clips are used where? I'll send some pics. Thanks.

Was it working before?
If not try this; unclip the rod from the handle to the mechanism at both ends and remove it, reinstall it the opposite way and try it. The rod looks symmetrical, but it’s not. And the rod can be bent a little to make it longer / compensate for wear.
