X2Consider a WIX filter 51515. Several other quality filters exist as well.
A 90° adapter can rotate the filter's orientation to allow for the Long filter to fit.
I have always used the Fram PH8A , Unless you don’t have the adapter than you have to go with the shorter one, of course don’t know what that part number is cause I’ve never had to deal with thatGood afternoon,
I have a stock 68 340, what type brand oil filter is good and reliable. Engine break in on Wednesday, builder said pick up oil and filter.
Thanks in advance.
For the most part, I agree. There are a lot of Cummins engine owners out there who would never think about using Fram after what they did with their full flow filters. It's amazing that they survived that stain on their reputation.I will always try to use a WIX filter. Also, the Carquest premium oil filters are made by WIX as well. I was in the Auto Parts business for almost 30 years as a store owner. Fram used to be a good product years ago, but now it's pretty much crap. Along with a lot of other name brands that are crap..

Wix was recently acquired by Mann & Hummel, a well regarded German company with long filtration experience. I wouldn't hesitate to use their product. Until recently, NAPA used Wix filters exclusively. Since Wix's sale, NAPA has taken to sourcing some of their product elsewhere, including from our friends in China. Buyer beware.
I now have 51 years in the parts biz, including a 5 year stint as a GM in a large NAPA store. I now work in parts for a large utility with over 1600 pieces of equipment, and we use Wix exclusively. To my knowledge, we have never experienced a filter related failure of any type. They are still manufacturing in the US.
The filter we are discussing here was at one time the largest selling filter in the industry from 1957 until sometime in the very late 1970s. I'm guessing they have the bugs worked out. So if your engine has the angled adapter, use the 51515. If it threads directly to the block, use the 51068. You won't go wrong.
I’m glad this thread came up because like I said I’ve always use Fram always had good luck with it had no idea they were crap, but I do believe that you guys know more than I do or have more experience with that stuff I mean in the beginning since I’ve owned the car for damn there 50 years They were a quality product but now apparently they’re not so I will definitely go with another brand from what everybody saying wixs is a good product I could’ve just got luckyPlease don't use Fram , since Honeywell bought them Fram is junk !
