I have a 73 Barracuda with a 70' tank. I am replacing the fuel lines, and while I was at it install the vent tube on the passenger side. (the Previous owner never installed it.) I recently purchased a pair of muffler heat shields. Will they interfere with the vent tube, or will the fit just below the tube? I have not installed the vent tube yet. Also, are the heat shields necessary? My car didn't come with them, but the previous owner did not really do things "the right way" In fact he might have had some mental issues and was taking them out on the car. LOL. Thanks.

The same heat shields were used for 1970 - 1974 E-bodies, part numbers 3404595 (left) and 3404596 (right), for dual exhaust cars. Part number 3404595 (left) only was used on 318 and 383 two barrel single exhaust cars.

Using the original 1970 vent tube routing will not interfere with the stock shields.

The shields are not crucial to use, but with the rear stock style mufflers, the shields reduce transmitted heat into the trunk compartment. If the rear stock style mufflers are not used, the shields are not necessary.
