FOR SALE A true factory-reference, investment-grade 1970 Plymouth Barracuda – numbers-matching, California survivor

Exhaust tips from a Chevy Citation 024
I had to go back and look at those. WTF?

The heavily formatted responses with bullets, bolding and especially the emojis is all just copy/pasted straight from ChatGPT. This is what the output of the current version of ChatGPT looks like. The ad copy and responses are mostly just AI-written, which explains the over-the-top "true factory-reference and investment-grade" description, hallucination of exact production figures which we know don't exist with that level of certainty and mixing up what transmission the car was originally delivered with. "Multiple sources" = ChatGPT.

Good luck with the sale. It looks like a solid car.

I believe 1970 California built cars were not available with the dual exhaust through the valance. This could be another "dealer installed" item, but then the tips would be correct. Still a very nice car.
Hi Adam and thanks for your message. I never considered that possibility because the Broadcast Sheet has entries for both left and right side exhaust. I did look into the CA legal situation in 1970 - there were no California-specific restrictions in 1970 regarding dual exhaust or valence exit tips. CA did have regs on emissions, which is why my Window Sticker shows Evaporative Emission Control (N95). That emissions feature was required for CA registration in 1970.

Your suggestion on the dual exhaust, valence and tips potentially being installed by the Dealer is well taken. Your comment prompted me to sleuth further and I noted the Window Sticker does not show the N41 (dual exhaust) option, which was a billable option. That suggests the factory config could have been single exhaust, which then got upgraded at the Dealership. That is consistent with the other muscle car styling add ons the Original Owner opted for at the time. Thank you for your insight.

There are many things about this car that are not "factory" beyond the claimed dealer installed add ons and a BC/CC repaint.

Good luck with the sale. Looks to likely be a fairly solid and nice driver, but I think you chose the wrong forum to try and market this car as "a true factory-reference and investment-grade Barracuda.
Thanks for your message DPC. I'm probably diff than many Sellers - I posted here first because I know there are many folks who have tremendous knowledge and would politely point things out if I had it wrong. I'm very appreciative of the knowledge share and will make mods to my ad copy accordingly. Thanks again.

No front bumper?
See last bullet under Condition Highlights. It reads:

• Note: original front bumper being prepped for re-chroming. Included in sale.

It had some chrome flaking from what I believe may have been underlying dirt from a previous poorly executed rechrome. So, I pulled it, stripped it and sent it off for a high quality job.

Thanks BR. I already shared that I utilized use of all the AI engines for research / fact checking - that's not being disguised but it's also not the exclusive source. Anyway, I acknowledge that at least the 2 of you don't concur with the production numbers. I appreciate that and hoping others will weigh in. If they aren't valid, I would like to know which figures (or all) are incorrect.

Similar head scratcher on the exhaust tips. Why would the owner go to the time/expense of adding various Plymouth parts (e.g. ducktail rear spoiler, dual horns, rear valence), but then decide on Chevy Exhaust Tips? I have a 70 Challenger R/T with factory tips. I knew the tips on my Barracuda were different than the Challenger but I assumed the variation was an intentional change by Plymouth. The choice isn't rational but if Plymouth and Dodge used identical exhaust tips in 70, then mine are wrong and we'll never know why.

Re the transmission, I gave a readout on both the Window Sticker and Broadcast sheet verifying the 727. Nobody has further questioned my initial response - So, I can only conclude there is no mix up on the transmission.

Additional information on the Barracuda dual exhaust question. Probably most folks in this forum know this already, but I did not. The N41 Dual Exhaust System was indeed a legitimate factory option on 1970 E-body Barracudas, listed alongside N42 Bright Exhaust Tips as separate orderable options. Mcecars And Classic Industries confirms the 318 used a Y-pipe exhaust system — meaning even with N41 dual exhaust, the 318 exited through a Y-pipe configuration rather than true dual pipes from the manifolds. Classic Industries So N41 was orderable on a 318, but it was a Y-pipe dual, not a true dual like the big blocks.

I'll be putting the Barracuda on my lift tomorrow and will confirm existence of the original Y pipe or if the dual exhaust install entailed and end to end update to true dual exhaust. Thanks again all.

70 barracuda, single, and challenger, double, have different exhaust tips.

I'm no officianado, but I don't think N42 was available in cali.
Please, someone, correct me if I am wrong, but cali cars received turn downs even on dual exhaust. And a different rear valance, a valance like an aar.
Why chevy tips? Definitely wrong, but same style. I would say these, valance and tips were installed much later. Unless of course the dealership has mention of the tips/valance change alongside the ducktail spoiler and the hockey stripe.

Did the dealership install the hockey stripes and leave the v5x body side moldings on the car? I see the moldings were removed when the paint was updated. (still have those?)

The pan pictures of the transmission were asked for to verify it is an actual 727. The vin number stamping from the trans was asked for to verify that the trans actually came with the car originally.

It should indeed have a Y pipe system unless it was changed to upgrade to a true dual exhaust. Hamtramck style (the rest of America and canad..a).

Production numbers are subjective. There are no real recorded production numbers for this year mopar. All numbers are percentage based and not actual. The numbers may be close to correct, but there will not be any "correct" numbers found.

You may want to change your description as to the 7K tach since this has an 8K tach and 7k tach's were 72-74.

I appreciate your willingness to talk about the replies. Often times, most, folks list a car for sale and all us Cuda nuts dissect the car and the owner takes offense to "collectors" calling out what is not "correct" with the car. This is just something us collectors do and are not trying to offend a seller. Thanks for the openness.

About the paint, not surprising. Several folks have very different meanings to the term "survivor".
Your car is a stunning example of a barracuda.

If the dealer has listed the dealership changes I would still consider those to be part of the cars as built history. That is what the customer received from MOPAR, even if the factory did not install all of them. That provenance helps a bunch with those upgrades being survivor grade.

Since you have already posted the Monroney report and the BROADCAST sheet could you please post the fender tag, the vin tag and the door sticker? Those can help verify multiple items on the BROADCAST sheet.
