Removed knob on shifter - shifts into r-d-1-2 no problem . Knob adjustmed several ways will not go into gear.
Is there any other place to adjust?

When you say "will not go in to gear" do you mean in the transmission? There are adjustments that can be made under the car to align D at the gear shift with D on the transmission, R-R, N-N, 2-2, etc.

Do you have a Factory Service Manual for your car? It is available, for free, in PDF form with a little googling. mymopar and e-bodies.org both have them.

It will shift perfect using the threaded rod without the knob and button . I backed off as far as i could which raises the black button in the center of the round knob

Please clarify if its the shifter that isn't clicking in to place (with the knob and button), or the selected gear at the transmission isn't clicking in to place.

you cannot move the selector unless you remove the knob and depress the threaded rod to shift park to drive or reverse

okay, thank you. so the gearshift lockout is not releasing by the button? And these are OEM parts, not aftermarket? The button does call for some precision placement on the threaded shaft.

But check the steering column lockout. When improperly adjusted, it can create a situation interfering with gear selection. Temporarily disconnecting the column lock front rod or the rear rod may show you the button unlocks the gear selection.

If the threads in the button are stripped, even a little, it may require the button to be screwed further onto the shaft than it did when it was younger, and that may result in the threaded shaft not being pushed in far enough to unlock.

The button is available aftermarket. But you may be able to repair your button using a bolt with the same threads, and some hard-drying epoxy, like JB Weld.

Completely 1000% factory gear . Survivor car
No threads striped.
In order to depress the button all the way down, you need to back all the way to the top of the threads .
It works perfect when you just depress the threaded rod down
