I have a 70 Barracuda. I'm having problems finding original fenders for a 70. I found a set of original 71 fenders. Will the 71 fenders fit on my 70? Are the mounting points the same? The alternative is to buy aftermarket fenders, which I rather not do. Thanks

Sure, they fit. And if the 1971 fenders don't have the fender gills (a 1971-only premium option) they will look identical to the 1970 fender. In 1971, the front fenders came in two versions.

But I am a little fuzzy where it comes to the headlight end pieces of the grille. Because they screw into the fender sheet metal, I don't recall if those holes are the same location on a 1971 fender. There could be other differences I'm unaware of.

When you go look at aftermarket fenders, they do indeed list two different fenders for 1971, with, or without gills. I would expect if the 1971 standard fender were an identical replacement to the 1970 fender, they would be listed that way on their websites, and on the 2-3 websites I looked at, they are listed (the 1970 and 1971 standard fender) separately - as if they are indeed different products.

They will bolt on but that is about it. The headlight setup for the 71's are four headlights and the headlight mounting buckets/brackets are totally different. And the grill is not even close. On a side note, I am looking for a pair of 71 barracuda fenders.

I didn't even think about the headlights or grill. Thanks

That's good to know. Thanks

I have a 71 Cuda that had a NOS 70 fender installed with a plate welded in with the gills. I eventually got a NOS 71 fender that I installed on the car. I remember vaguely a little work was done to fit in the 71 headlight bracket, but that was about 40 years ago.

70 Barracudas had three different fenders. Base models with 14" wheels, Cuda models with 15" wheels (are wider - easy to tell by sliding your hand between the outer fender and headlights buckets) and AAR Cuda were in between (learned that on this sight). 70 Challengers are similar. I'm assuming 71 would have narrower fenders without gills for 14" wheels and the gilled fenders will be wider for 15" wheels.

Assuming you have the right year headlight buckets, you should be able to swap between 70 and 71 fenders of the same width with a little modification!

Is there a way to actually measure the fenders, or do I just eye ball it? Thanks for the info.

Sorry for not replying sooner. Life likes to get in the way sometimes. I don't know of any measurements per se. I've only seen the AAR/TA fender in a photo. With a base (narrow) fender, you can't slide your fingers between the outer panel and headlight bucket, but on the wider 15" fender, you can.

Thanks for your response. I'm in no hurry.
