    First trip on the road

Rebuilt the thermoquad yesterday morning, slapped it on the newly rebuilt engine in the afternoon and started it up. Sounded great, whew. Then took it around the block this morning for it's maiden voyage. All good, so went directly to a car show 24 miles away. Returned home, no issues. What a...

    Windage tray torque?

Thanks gentlemen! Done. Going on the engine hoist tomorrow. Back in the car Saturday. Start it Sunday. That's the plan. Wish me luck - cheers!

    Windage tray torque?

What's the torque for the four windage tray bolts for my 340? Seen 15lbs and 95 inch pounds.

    Oil pump drive

During priming, I got oil up to the rockers on both banks. Looks great. Took awhile to figure out the correct orientation of the crank/camshaft to make this happen. LOTS of spinning! So now, when trying to install the oil pump drive hex end into the pump, she just will not fall in, even with a...

    Oil priming question

For a small block: To get oil up to the rockers on the driver side (1,3,5,7), turn the crank to compression stroke of #6TDC. Spin the oil pump. To get oil up to the rockers on the passenger side (2,4,6,8), turn the crank to 90 degrees before TDC of #1 compression stroke. Spin the oil pump.

    Oil priming question

Just received the new gaskets for the 90 degree oil filter adapter from Mega Parts. Copper gasket for the end of the bolt and a white "plastic" style gasket for inside in lieu of the cork one that I was not thrilled about. And a new bolt, that I do not need, but will probably use. Also...

    Oil priming question

I know, right. I have always wondered why you do both. For me, I just want to make sure the oil is getting up where it belongs before slapping it in the car.

    Oil priming question

Just want to confirm that when you prime the engine with oil on a LA small block, the direction to spin the oil pump is clockwise - correct?

    Pre-oiling before first start trick

Went to True Value and picked up a paint stirring rod for about $15. Same hex size as the oil pump. Cut off the "stirring" end, sanded off the paint for the oil pump end, and it's the perfect length. They have these at Lowes and Home Depot also. Cheaper alternative. Cheers!

    Push rods

Should have taken a photo of them prior to install, but was too excited about getting the valves set.

    Push rods

Ordered custom length push rods from Smith Bros. in Oregon. They said it would take about a week to process/queue up and a week to deliver. I had them in 10 days. Perfect, beautiful, a work of art. Highly recommend!

90 Degree Oil Filter gasket question

Torqued it down to 40 ft lbs. The green gasket (from Mancini) at the bolt totally shredded. I've ordered another set with a new bolt (that I do not need) that has the copper gasket (from Mega Parts). Hope it turns (pun intended) out better.

    Hello from NY!

Thanks for your post. Yes, if someone has that car they would love to obtain that paperwork.

90 Degree Oil Filter gasket question

Thanks guys. So here are the photos of that area. Looks like the block has been "plugged" properly and the two bolt gaskets are in the correct spot. Final question, do you use any sealant or soak the cork gasket with something like WD40 in a similar fashion as carb gaskets, or does the cork...

90 Degree Oil Filter gasket question

Got the gasket set from Mancini for the 90 degree oil filter adapter. It has the cork gasket which I assume goes on the bolt between the block and adapter. And the thin one goes between the attachment bolt and adapter. Seems strange to have that cork gasket inside there. I now discovered that a...

    Engine rebuild - take 2

Take 1 was a mistake on my part. I had mic'd the crank before ordering bearings. Crank was standard. Ordered standard main and standard rod bearings. Had a shop clean the block and crank, and then they installed the crank for me. They turned the crank mains and rods 10 under. Didn't tell me...
