    ignition switch

I have and referenced the factory manual (I bought the one I have in the 1980s when I bought my first Challenger) prior to doing anything here. It was very vague and unhelpful, actually. There was a complete lack of proper descriptions of just about anything I've needed to do in the car, and so...

    ignition switch

Found a loose wire on the ignition switch harness. Looks like it was probably on the "run" line of the circuit, next to the large red wire. Car running. But I didn't find it until after I replaced that switch and the ballast resistors. THANK YOU to everyone that offered help and advice! OC

    ignition switch

OK, jumped out both ballast resistors; no change. To answer one of the questions here, the engine cranks, but never starts, regardless of what position the key (ignition) switch is in. I am going to remove the resistors from the firewall and look at them to see if any of the coils are broken...

    ignition switch

I will absolutely recheck my steps and make sure I jump out the ballast resistors. I'm wondering, are those even needed with electronic ignition?

    ignition switch

OK well the new switch DID NOT fix the run problem... oh my gosh, now what? In fact, the two switches looked pretty close to identical, so the old one may have been a Standard Motor Products also! Most trouble I had was realizing I needed to remove the outer sleeve on the locking wheel, prior to...

    ignition switch

OK, so I ordered one today from Summit Racing. They have the Standard Motor Products brand of switch, which has a 3 year warranty on the part. I believe it has the black and red wire out of the pigtail, the way Jack was showing. Will report back once I install it, which will be the weekend at...

Yep, that's what I was thinking too Jack...

Thanks Leo but I jumped out both the ballast resistors. No change.

    ignition switch

Has anyone discovered an ignition switch that is well made, aftermarket? This will be the 3rd one I've put in this car, and it appears that most of the aftermarket switches have one problem or another. I just put this one in less than a year ago, but I've always noticed that it does not always...

    No headlights...

OK, so I found a loose wire under the dash, one going into the main connector in the harness, lights fixed. I should have opted to replace that entire harness the last time I had it in the shop.

    No headlights...

OK, well I just did a little more research, and it appears that part number is a Horn Relay and not a Headlight Relay.. bummer... any idea what else might be wrong?

    No headlights...

I know there's been posts here before, and I looked through those to get any ideas I could. All my other lights come on except the headlights. I know there's been talk here about doing the relay upgrade, but I don't believe that's been done to this car. I did check all the fuses and none are...

Issues with bogging and suspected fuel pump output...

UPDATE! So, my guy who put the Comp Cam kit in the car about 5 years ago has it back in his shop. In addition to the timing being way off (about 27 degrees advanced, plus mechanical advance), he has discovered that a lot of the backfiring and other issues turned out to be a bad (weak) valve...

Issues with bogging and suspected fuel pump output...

Thanks for all the excellent replies people! And YES, Mascottrepair, the distributor is the ONLY item not replaced under the hood, ignition-wise. I had one guy mess with the distributor weights and lock them out, in an attempt to get better runnability. The engine has not stalled or died since...

Issues with bogging and suspected fuel pump output...

Yes, XCuda, all true and accurate. I know that the Fuel Tank and Sending Unit were replaced before I bought the car, probably going back about 15-20 years at this point, by the previous owner. That doesn't guarantee anything of course, but at least we know it wasn't the OEM parts still in the...

Issues with bogging and suspected fuel pump output...

I didn't put the cam kit in myself, so I don't exactly know how it was done. But the guy was an experienced engine builder and looked at the engine later and (seemed to) confirm that there was nothing wrong with the cam. But I hear what you're saying and if the fuel pump pressure yields nothing...

Thanks Steve.. I'll give that a shot! OC

Issues with bogging and suspected fuel pump output...

Hey guys.. several years ago, I upgraded the cam with a Comp Cam kit, for slightly better performance on the 440. I believe the lift was .477, so not super radical. However, since adding the cam, I've had a runnability problem, where the engine will not rev above about 3000rpm and bogs on...

    Seat belts....

Hey guys...I'm having a friend come visit and I know I want to take him in the car, but he's an above average size guy and I need some help either finding a seatbelt extender or just use another type of belt that will interface with mine. I have the Pontonier 300-2 style belts in my car, but...
