Low Torque from 440BB and troubleshooting/solutions

Compression range all look good, but the overall numbers look a bit low, but that’s all highly component dependent and it may be best for your setup. Your resulting rear wheel numbers do look very respectable. So just some fine tuning to get improvements. Glad to hear that is all it took.

Has anyone modified the reverse light lenses on a 72-74?

I’d be very interested in seeing that. I have been itching to make some significant changes to the rear lights in my ‘74 (convert from four to a six light, symmetrical layout ), but the asymmetrical shape of the lenses combined with the angles of the housings and curve of the panels combined...

    Upgrading 73 Challenger with 318.

Well, I'd leave the heads on it, swap in a 340 4bbl cam, put on an aluminum 4bbl intake, put tubular headers on it, and then a 500-625 cfm 4bbl. Summit has the cam kit for under $300, a used LD340 or Stealth or similar dual plane intake is $300 off the web, headers can be found used for...

    Upgrading 73 Challenger with 318.

The 318 is a smaller engine all the way around. Not just in the bore and displacement but also in the heads, in the chambers, in the intake, everywhere. Not only are you NOT going to get a giant power increase with 360 heads, but using LA 360 heads on a 318 will lead to a power DECREASE due to...

73 barracuda truck extension missing curiosity.

I'll admit to not looking under E bodies regularly, but I have never seen one without these extensions. In any case, if you want to add them, it shouldn't be too difficult. Put them in place, spot weld, touch up the paint. However, if you never noticed they were missing before, then someone...

    Biggest Tires???????

Up front I run an MT 26x10 tire on a 15x8 wheel with 4.5" backspace. Fits well. BTW, that about a 255/60 in metric terms. I test fit a 26x12 on a 15x10 rim. Won't work because you can't get enough backspace to get it under the wheel lip and clear the control arm (control arm limits backspace...

Low Torque from 440BB and troubleshooting/solutions

I agree with 540Hemi that this will be tough to diagnose over the computer and his recommendation to seek outside help is sound. However, it also depends on finding a dyno capable shop. Maybe not an issue since the OP is in CA. It also requires a competent dyno operator. Again, another variable...

    Eastwood Spray Can

I've used their 2k chassis black previously. It is a very good paint. Goes on smooth, lays out nice, and hardens into a strong durable finish with the right amount of gloss. This is because 2k spray cans have activator and hardener in a capsule inside the can. You have to use the red tab...

Just Curious, When did the "title" CUDA really come into being ...

Formally as used by the factory, 1969. However, on the street that had the name much longer, going back to the first generation.

    USA Hockey

I don't know if I'd say Binnington was shaky, but he did seem to be having an average game. A 1 goal loss is pretty damn close contest and is about average for a good team. Hellebuyck on the other hand, had an extraordinary game and that made all the difference.

E body and other mopar oddities.

Sorry about the uber late follow-up. I wasn't getting on here too regularly back then. So yes, I'm HP2 over there. When I first registered the forXonly sites along time ago, HP2 wasn't available. So I'm HPP on all of these. Next, regarding the CoronetBird (CoroBird, SuperNet, BirdNBee...

    Classic Car Repair Shop

No. I prefer to do all the work on my classics and in the vast majority of cases, can do it. Exceptions would be trans rebuilds, gear set-ups, engine machining, or a/c charging. Any of these can be done by other shops that aren't necessarily classic focused. I would think to have a classic only...

    Nittos and 17"

Are those 17" steel wheels? Holy cow those must be heavy. I have seen good press about the 555s. That stills seems odd, but it could be highly dependent upon the backspacing of the wheels. If this isn't dialed in, then I could see it limiting how much tire you can fit. Improve position of the...

Help needed, steering shaft nut size and thread

My 74 Challenger is a 9/16-20, as are/were my '67 B, '74 A, and '80 F bodies. Finding this size at any general hardware store isn't happening. However, I did finally find a 9/16-20 lug nut at O'Reilly. It is a bit thick, but that can be corrected. Since it doesn't have the locking feature, I...

    Strange Adjustable Shocks

There are a number of decent shocks out there that don't get a lot of press. In many cases, single adjustable shocks only control one aspect of the motion. In the case of Strange, the literature on their shocks says their adjusters on single adjustable shocks will only modify the...

    Clear Coat Paint

I don't mind shiny paint and super glossy finishes. Also don't mind suede finishes either.

To stripe or not to stripe?

Yeah, but....the Challenger bumble bee stripe is not nearly as cool as the Coronet or Charger bumble bee stripes. The Challenger version are too far back and too abbreviated, IMO.

How much can you narrow rear axle with a mini tub kit?

Still comes down to how much dish you want to achieve. The Challenger wheel well will accept a 335 wide tire, depending on how tall you go, without a mini-tub. Since you say pro touring more so than pro street, I'll assume a 26" no more than 27" overall height. This should fit in the tub...

How much can you narrow rear axle with a mini tub kit?

If you are doing a pro street layout, it really depends on the offset you want to run on the wheels to determine how wide the axle needs to be. I've done some mental gymnastics around wider front track width to play with scrub radius geometry which would also require a wider rear track in order...

To stripe or not to stripe?

Rump stripe is the least favorite of mine overall. The longitudinal r/t stripe looks good. Kind of like the T/A stripe too. Also think the 72-74 vent stripes look good. Given the kick up feature in the quarters, I've always been disappointed that Dodge didn't offer something like the Plymouth...
